24-25 Season - Week 2 Recap

July 8th - July 14th, 2024

Week 2 was a busy week for Pokemon TCG Competitors, as we had 16 total events held across the country. Many venues kicked off their competitive schedule this week, While some have already hosted multiple championship-level competitions after only 2 weeks!

In the Masters Division, Nathan Spry continues his reign atop the leaderboard for the 2nd week in a row finishing the week with 94 CP. 

The Senior division has a 2-way tie on the top with Hikaru Handa (SA) and Elijah Smart (NSW) both with 105 CP.

The Junior division is a two-player race at the moment, with Minoru Handa on top in 1st at 115 CP, and Arnold Hepner trailing closely behind in 2nd with 105 CP.

We are only missing 2 results (both league challenges) so far.

NEW SOUTH WALES:

It was a. rather quiet week for NSW competitions, with only 2 events being held – a league challenge at Good Games Chatswood. 

Attendance was high at Good Games Chatswood. The challenge was attended by 25 masters, 6 Seniors and 5 Juniors. In the Masters division, Lucas Hamilton-Foster piloted his Lugia deck to the win, with Nathan Spry continuing his epic early season run to finish in 2nd Place with Regidrago. The top 4 was rounded out by Johnny Chan with Miradon and Andrew Shi with Gardevoir. In the Senior Division, Elijah Smart added to his point total with another victory powered by his Gardevoir deck, and in the Junior Division, Arnold Hepner piloted his Regidrago to a victory, overcoming a situation involving a few missing dragons.

Good Games Albury also held a league challenge, The Masters Division had 11 competitors, with Scarlet L taking the win. In the Seniors Division, Wilbur Smith came first, and in the Junior Division it was Tate Duncan.

VICTORIA:

In Victoria, there were 7 total championship events: 6 Challenges and 1 Cup. 

The Guf Bendigo League Cup was the main event of the week, with Angus Johnson bringing Snorlax Stall to victory in the Masters division and earning a clean 50CP. Roman Addamo’s Turbo Lost Box placed 2nd, while the top 4 was rounded out with Will Ladner playing Chien-Pao and Oliver Hanns piloting SableZard. In the Senior Division, Kingsley Cheng proved that he is still a force to be reckoned with, winning his very first Senior Division Cup after making the jump from Juniors this year. Luke Bennet finished 2nd, and the top 4 rounded out with Noah Lewis in 3rd and Patrick Williams finishing 4th. In the Junior Division it was Wyatt Lee earning the victory with Jesse Lewis coming in 2nd.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

There were two championship events held in SA this week, both League Challenges.

South Australia kicked off their 2nd week of the season at Good Games Modbury with a League Challenge. 27 Players competed in the Masters Division. Jordan Palmer took the win with Gardevoir, Thomas Pine came 2nd with Arc Vulpix, Jared Linklater came 3rd with Garedvoir and Manuel Cresdee rounded out the top 4 with Roaring Moon. As of this post we do not have the results for Seniors or Juniors.

The 2nd event was another League Challenge at Good Games Adelaide. Jordan Palmer got his 2nd Challenge win of the weekend with Gardevoir, finishing 1st out of the 18 competitors that attended. James Goreing piloted Lugia to 2nd place, Stefan Cocks finished 3rd with Gouging Fire and Thomas McCawley rounded out the top 4 with Raging Bolt/Ogerpon. It was a pair of brothers taking down the Senior and Junior Division, with Hikaru Handa winning Seniors, and Minoru Handa winning Juniors. Hikaru finishes week 2 ranked atop the leaderboards in Australia for the Junior Division.

QUEENSLAND:

3 events were held in QLD this week, all League Challenges.

Good Games Gold Coast held its first League Challenge of the season on Saturday July 13th. The Masters Division had 17 total participants, with Scott Minnekeer winning the event and Tyler Bishop taking 2nd. In the Senior Division, another Junior competitor moving up a division, Madeline Burness, gets the win. The Juniors Division was taken down by Harrison Hall, who adds to his point total for the season!

The Outpost held a league challenge on Sunday, with Tyler Bishop following up a 2nd place finish at GG Gold Coast with a win in the Masters Division. Owen D got the win in the Senior Division and Harrison Hall took their 2nd consecutive cup win in the Junior Division.

The 3rd QLD challenge took place at Centurion Collectables. There were 10 total competitors across all 3 divisions who competed. We do not have the breakdown by division, but you can see the final standings (all 3 divisions included) below. Congrats to Melanie Sinclair (Masters) and Charlie Lindh (Juniors) for their respective wins and we will update these results when we get more clarity on the final standings by division.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA:

We have our first result in from WA, with a league challenge being held at Good Games Morley. There were 27 players in the Masters division, with Hayden Price piloting Gardevoir to the win, Marco Giovannini’s Turbo Moon taking 2nd, and rounding out the top 4 with 3rd place going to Sophia Crunkhorn (Raging Bolt) and 4th place to Anthony Tsang with Chien Pao. The Senior Division points went to Yuichi Matsuo who played Palkia Bibarel.

TASMANIA:

There was an event held in TAS this week at Good Games Hobart, however we do not have results as of this post.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITOL TERRITORY:
